Hayley Mossman and Charlotte Childs have been nominated for the award, which recognises Year 6 students who follow in Professor Hollows’s footsteps by showing care, compassion, community service and humanity to others.
Professor Hollows, who died in 1993, dedicated his life to helping others, saving the sight of disadvantaged people around the world.
Hayley and Charlotte are both members of the school leadership team and many representative sports teams.
Hayley works with Rotary outside of school, and assisted with food preparation and serving the volunteers during the massive bushfires near Kurri Kurri this year.
Charlotte assists with running school parliament and volunteers in kindergarten classrooms, and also uses her time outside of school to assist with fundraising events for both Rotary and the school.
Both girls are integral member of the Kinder Buddies program, helping to run organised games for kindergarten students on the school playground at lunchtime.
Kurri Kurri Public School community liaison officer Davina Dawes said the school is “enormously proud” of Hayley and Charlotte’s achievements.
Professor Hollows’s wife Gabi will present each nominee with a certificate at NSW Parliament House on October 23.
A Junior Ambassador will be announced at the ceremony, and will receive $5000 to donate to a Fred Hollows Foundation program of their choice.
