Elemental is the culmination of a two-year collaboration by Lisa Macarthur Edwards, Kate Landsberry, Emilia Krumm, Lindsay Cameron and Therese Gabriel Wilkins.
Each artist has rich and diverse experiences, methods, practices and mediums, resulting in an eclectic collaboration responding to nature, place, relationship, trust, renewal and things made and found.
Wilkins said it began when the artists came together with two works each and put them into the centre.
“All the artworks were then taken by other artists in the group and rearranged, renewed, and then brought back to the group until all five had worked on every piece,” she said.
“From these original pieces over two years ago the exhibition has stemmed.
“The journey of the art has been documented in photographs enabling the viewer to see the metamorphosis of each piece.
“The journey and narratives woven into each piece are as important as the piece themselves.”
The exhibition explores the trust, honesty, friendship and community that developed between the five artists during the creative process – the work itself has become the 'sixth string', they say.
Elemental was officially opened on Saturday evening by Central Coast artist Nicole de Mestre, and will run until October 22.
The artists will speak at the gallery’s Art After Hours event this Thursday from 5.30pm to 7.30pm.
“Guests have the opportunity to meet with the artists, hear about the process and production of the works and ask questions with refreshments provided,” Wilkins said.
“These nights are informative giving community opportunity to really learn a lot more about the art work and how artists produce it.”
