The September 13 blaze left the museum with an estimated $1 million damage bill, with two kilometres of track, stainless steel passenger cars, a 100-year-old break van and at least 30 hoppers among the losses.

Contributions to the Rebuilding Richi appeal will go towards restoration of the site to operation and exhibits for display

Museum spokesperson Graham Smith said the fundraising will help the museum restore its operations as quickly as possible.

“The museum plans a staged return to rail operations, with the reinstatement of the Mulbring Road branch being the initial priority,” Mr Smith said.

“Work on the main line to Pelaw Main will follow, including the repairs to the number one bridge.

“To achieve this, hundreds of sleepers must be replaced.

“Every $150 donated allows us to lay another sleeper.

“Every donation helps us get closer to full reopening and operation.”

A trivia night will be held at Kurri Kurri Senior Citizens Hall on Saturday, October 28 at 7pm.

The trivia night will include railway history questions as well as general knowledge.
