The Little Library in Wollombi has been officially opened, after a collaborative effort by Cessnock City Council and community members to bring the pop-up library to life.

Council embraced the project after the Wollombi School Community Education Trust (WSCET) approached council staff with the idea of creating a home for books in Wollombi, where people could share books and ultimately their love of reading.
To kick off the collection, Cessnock City Libraries donated a variety of books and the Cessnock Men’s Shed also pitched in, volunteering to build a sturdy structure for the little library to live.
Cessnock mayor Bob Pynsent said the Little Library is a place where people can recycle books and also grab a book you like.
“Instead of a book collecting dust on a shelf you can drop it off at the Wollombi Little Library and pick up a new read to enjoy,” Cr Pynsent said.
“These pop-up libraries are becoming increasingly popular, as it is a simple way of encouraging locals to read, sparking creativity and connecting community.”
WSCET president Frank Ganino said the library operates on an honesty system, where readers can borrow, exchange or even keep books.
