This week (October 8 to 14) is Australia’s inaugural National Gardening Week.
Founded by The Garden Clubs of Australia, National Gardening Week celebrates the simple joys of gardening and highlights the associated environmental, social and health benefits.
The Garden Clubs of Australia president, George Hoad, was inspired by the English version of the event when he visited in 2013.
“The Royal Horticultural Society (UK) had launched the inaugural National Gardening Week in 2011 and it has grown into the country’s biggest celebration of gardening,” he said.
Cessnock Garden Club – which celebrated its 50th anniversary in March this year – welcomes everyone with an interest in gardening to come along and join the celebrations.
The open garden will be held at 65 Ferguson Street, Cessnock from 10am Saturday.
Entry is free and there will be morning tea and a variety of plants for sale.
