Week Two of Cessnock District Cricket saw a small amount of matches washed out due to some much-needed rain, meanwhile on the paddock a third-grade hat-trick and fourth-grade century provided the highlight of the weekend.

Peden’s Hotel third grade opening bowler George Copeland picked up the association’s second hat-trick already this season in the match against Supporters Club at Turner Park.
Taking the new ball, the 15-year-old achieved the bowler’s holy grail with the fourth, fifth and sixth deliveries of just his second over. He finished the day with figures of 4-17 off 5.
Meanwhile, at the opposing end of the cricketing scale, Greta/Branxton fourth grade skipper James Shoulders jnr picked up a ton against Peden’s Hotel at Millfield. Opening the batting, Shoulders blasted 19 boundaries and cleared the fence twice in a fine innings of 108.
In first grade the match between Wine Country and Bellbird at Allandale ended in a draw when rain brought the match to a halt midway through the second innings.
Bellbird won the toss and elected to bat, and were bowled out in the 38th over for 191.
Not usually renowned for his batting, Nic Siers led the way with an unbeaten 56, with Luke Weekes (29), Ben Fairlie (23), Elliot Gyler (23), Jason Orr (17) and Matt Fairlie (17) all making starts.
Dave Farrell was easily the pick of the Wine Country attack with 5-37 off 10, with Rob Sidebottom (2-41 off 10) also bowling tidily.
The Wood Ducks were in a spot of bother at 6-78 after 22 overs in reply before play was abandoned due to rain.
Continuing on from his excellent innings the previous week, association president Stephen Hedger led the way at the apex of the order once again with 37, meanwhile Brendan Briendenhann remained unbeaten on 25.
Bellbird spearhead Ben Troke was the pick of the Tigers attack with 3-23 off 10.

Troke has joined the Tigers from the Newcastle C&S competition and appears to be a very handy pick up.
Something very rare worth mentioning occurred in the match, where diamond ducks appeared on both batting cards.
At Miller Park the match between Greta/Branxton and Peden’s Hotel also ended in a draw with just 22 overs of play taking place before the rain came.
Peden’s Hotel won the toss and chose to bat and were 5-58 when stumps were drawn.
After a 13-year lay off from the game, Mark Crowfoot made 14, with Tom Lantry making 13.
Greta/Branxton skipper Brent Watson (3-19 off 8) and Nathan Holz (2-34 off 10) were the wicket takers for the home side.
The final match of the round between Mulbring and Supporters at Mulbring Oval was washed out before a ball was bowled.
