Cessnock Council has received a $50,000 grant that will be put toward installing an outdoor gym at Bridges Hill Park.

The funding was granted under the NSW Government’s Social Housing Community Improvement Fund.
The fund provides one-off grants of up to $50,000 to councils, not-for-profit and private sector organisations to make physical improvements in social housing communities or other areas visited by social housing tenants.
Cessnock mayor Bob Pynsent welcomed the grant, which will boost council’s Active Cessnock – Exercise for Health and Well-being program.
“Council is committed to providing our residents with more affordable and accessible recreational opportunities to engage in an active lifestyle,” Cr Pynsent said.
“The outdoor gym located at Miller Park, Branxton has received wonderful feedback from the community and we are committed to identifying new opportunities to provide these important facilities.”
Council expects the outdoor gym to be installed some time next year.
The Bridges Hill Park upgrade forms part of the Cessnock Civic Precinct Revitalisation project.
A masterplan for Bridges Hill Park, Convent Hill and East End Oval will come back to council soon after its exhibition period concluded on Friday.
