Held globally on the last Friday in October, Reclaim The Night was established more than 30 years ago to promote the rights of women and children to feel safe in their homes and in the community, and remember those who have lost their lives to domestic violence.
HDVSAS has hosted Reclaim the Night events since 2010, with this year’s to be held at Branxton RSL Memorial Hall (67 Maitland Street) from 5.30pm to 9pm.
“It’s a night all about women taking back the night, to walk in safety without being harassed, sexually assaulted or sadly murdered,” HDVSAS coordinator Paula Mudd said.
“Towards the end of the night we have a march to let people know that any type of violence against women will not be tolerated in our community.”
Cessnock singers Tara Naysmith and Trinity Woodhouse will perform along with the In Step Line Dancers. There will also be a sausage sizzle, face painting and small showbags for children.
“It will be a good family night, so please come and join us,” Ms Mudd said.
