The crowd – believed to be the biggest on record for the event – was entertained by an impressive line-up of Hunter performers including Cessnock’s Tara Naysmith (who was the MC), and 14-piece big band Santa’s Little Helpers.
Miss Cessnock City, Molly Rayward, welcomed the audience with a message about what Christmas means to her, emphasising the importance of giving, and spending time with family and friends.
Santa Claus arrived in style by helicopter, much to the excitement of hundreds of children.
The evening wrapped up with a spectacular fireworks display.
The event was proudly sponsored by Newcastle Permanent Building Society, Rover Motors and Cessnock City Council.
