More than 200 young people and their families converged on East Cessnock Skate Park on Saturday morning for Cessnock Youth Centre’s annual scooter, bike and skate competition.

After a damp, cloudy early morning, the competition heated up with the weather for a great day of thrills and skills, as the young people demonstrated their talents to compete for coveted prizes.
“The young people who came along were all so well-behaved and well-mannered; it is always a total pleasure to put on these events,” Cessnock City Council’s youth coordinator Will Doran said.
The winners were:
Scooter – Beginner, 1st Nat Person, 2nd Henry Andrews, 3rd Andrew Barry; Intermediate – 1st Bailey Baker, 2nd Trae Hawes, 3rd Andy Clifford; Advanced – 1st Levi Saich, 2nd Aaymen McDonald, 3rd Jai Pearce; Best trick scooter – Jai Pearce.
Bike – Beginner, 1st Liam Burns, 2nd Jake Langdon; Intermediate, 1st Angus Lethbridge, 2nd Blake Dawson, 3rd Matt McDonald; Advanced, 1st Jake Burton, 2nd Caleb Browning, 3rd Ethen Burns.
Skate – Beginner, 1st Noah Smith; Advanced, 1st Destry Parkter, 2nd Matt Garraty.
The event was made possible by the young people who assisted with set up, judging, organisation, photography, cleaning and pack-up.
Council was also supported by the Samartians Foundation, the Cessnock Community and Youth Development Project and local businesses who assisted with prizes including Bike Trax Cessnock, Bombora Surf, Thread and Ink and Morgan's Bikes.
The next competition is set for April 2018.
