Random breath tests to increase over festive season
Police were conducting RBT on Wollombi Road, Cessnock at 6.50pm on Saturday night when they pulled in a 24-year-old motorist for a breath test.

The man failed the roadside test and was taken to Cessnock Police Station where a breath analysis revealed the man had in excess of three times the legal limit of alcohol in his blood.
The young man had his licence suspended and will be appearing at Cessnock Court.
Police will be increasing the amount of random breath tests over the festive season to protect the community from drink drivers. Drink-drive and eventually you will be caught.
Possession of drugs and tobacco at prison
At midday on Sunday, a 46-year-old female visitor was allegedly detected with a small quantity of the drug methylamphetamine (commonly known as ice) and a quantity of tobacco while on the grounds of Cessnock Correctional Centre.
Readers might not be aware that tobacco is a prohibited substance on prison grounds. The woman will be attending Cessnock Court.
Unregistered rider on unregistered motorbike
Police apprehended a 19-year-old man on an unregistered trail bike in Eighth Street, Weston at 10pm on Saturday night.
Police later found the man had never held a licence and the bike was uninsured. He will now be attending Kurri Kurri Court.
Police are targeting motorbike riders who break the law.
Malicious damage to houses under construction
Over the last two weeks, several houses under construction in Alkira Avenue, Cessnock have been damaged by offenders throwing rocks.
Police are investigating the offences, but would also like to hear from any community member with information via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. Calls can be anonymous.

Police would like to remind motorists to take extra care to secure their vehicle while Christmas shopping.
Thieves target vehicles with shopping left in them. Of course the best practise is not to leave shopping in your vehicle, but if this cannot be avoided, at least make sure it is out of sight and check your car is locked every time it is left unattended.
