Fake $50 and $100 notes were used at Woolworths Rutherford in different transactions on January 23 and February 12.
The first incident was not noticed until staff were counting the cash float in the safe.
The second incident occurred between 11am and 1.30pm, and was picked up by an automated cash counter.
A drive-through customer also attempted to use a counterfeit $50 note at Kurri Kurri fast-food restaurant on February 12.
Two people entered the drive-through in a blue sedan at KFC Kurri Kurri around 2.30pm that afternoon, and placed an order.
They proceeded to the collection window and handed over the note, which the cashier took to her manager for inspection, suspecting it was a counterfeit note.
By the time the cashier returned to the window, the car had driven away.
Police attended the restaurant and seized the counterfeit note.
Hunter Valley Police District crime coordinator Sergeant Libby Simos said local businesses should be reminded to look at the notes that are being handed to them, and if anyone believes they have a counterfeit note, to contact their local police immediately.
Anyone with information about this incident should contact Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.
