Brother Callaghan, of Mulbring, took office on April 14 for his second term, exactly 10 years after his previous mastership.
In a traditional ceremony at the Weston Masonic Centre, the lodge’s outgoing Master, Worshipful Brother Mitchell Perrin installed his successor in the presence of the Assistant Grand Master of NSW and ACT, Right Worshipful Brother Bill Driver, who had travelled from Sydney for the occasion.
The ceremony was witnessed by visitors from across the region as far afield as Gundy and Morisset.
“I thank Brother Mitch for his leadership of Lodge Tomalpin over the last two years,” Brother Callaghan said.
“He has quietly implemented changes to the meeting and social programs which will benefit us for the future.
“I hope that I can continue this development so that our members can continue their personal development and support our charitable projects.”
A highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of the past master’s jewel to Brother Perrin by his grandfather, Right Worshipful Brother Ron Hughes, of Pelaw Main.
Brother Perrin was also congratulated by the Assistant Grand Master, and by District Grand Inspector, Very Worshipful Brother Mark Pollard.
Following the ceremony, brethren adjourned to the Weston Workers’ Club for a banquet.
Wives and partners had earlier gathered at the club for a hands-on jewellery workshop delivered by members of Cessnock Gem Club.
Lodge Tomalpin meets on the third Monday of every month at the Weston Masonic Centre in Second Street. Membership is open to men above the age of 18.
Inquiries can be directed to membership officer Greg Allen on 0407 361 080, or by visiting the lodge’s fundraising barbecue at Bunnings Warehouse Cessnock on Sunday, May 13.
