Anthony Burke and Jo O’Malley have set themselves a challenge and will skydive for the Hunter Breast Cancer Foundation and the Hunter Prostate Cancer Alliance on Sunday, March 17.
Seeing his aunty battle many challenges during her recent treatment for breast cancer, Anthony was inspired to organise A Jump 4 Charity.
“When I first decided to put the charity event together I wanted to choose something that would challenge me,” he said.
“I have a fear of heights so skydiving will be a challenge but nothing compared to what men and women go through fighting cancer.
“I decided to not just raise money for one cancer type so chose two charities that would allow me to raise money for cancers that affect both women and men.”
Jo approached Anthony about joining in the jump as she too is petrified of heights, and wanted to help raise more funds.
“I have had many close family members go through breast cancer and it is something very close to my heart,” she said.
Anthony and Jo have set a fundraising goal of $10,000 that will go to the two charities, which help more than men and women and their families in the Hunter Region every year.
Two major fundraising events will be held in the lead-up to their skydive – a golf day at Kurri Golf Club on Friday, March 8 and a dinner and auction at Cessnock Supporters Club the following night.
Tee off for the four-person ambrose golf day is 11am, and the cost of $50 per person includes green fees, cart and BBQ lunch. To register a team call Anthony on 0439 601 852.
The dinner will start at 6.30pm and will include entertainment from local singers, dancers from KC Dance HQ, comedian Jason Starrett and Impression DJ.
There is an impressive list of auction items up for grabs including accommodation packages, a signed Roger Federer tennis racquet and a Black Caviar race whip just to name a few.
Anthony would like to thank all sponsors and businesses that have made the upcoming dinner possible through their donations.
“I look forward to a fun and exciting night,” he added.
Tickets are $55 and are available at the club or via their website www.cessnocksupportersclub. com.au/Book_Tickets.htm.
