Locals and visitors enjoyed fantastic action on the track, with heats in the morning and early afternoon followed by the two-hour grand prix from 3pm.
Last year’s winners Marty McNamara and Luke Richards took out the feature event once again, with local nine-time Australian dirt track champion Paul Caslick teaming up with three-time Superbike World Champion Troy Bayliss to finish second, and Richie Nowland and Justin Girotto taking out third position.
The day also featured amusements, markets, entertainment and a presentation to conclude the night at Peden’s Hotel.
Commentator Mark Bracks said the event was a huge success, which was a credit to everyone involved.
“It’s just a good community event,” Bracks said.
“It’s unique in the world really.”
Along with Bayliss, other world champions rode through the streets of Cessnock as part of the event including three-time speedway world champion Jason Crump and 2012 speedway world champion Chris Holder.
Bracks said more riders and spectators than last year turned out for this year’s event, and only expects that to grow from year to year with hopes of other big names getting involved.
Cessnock City Council has approved the Postie Bike Grand Prix for another four years, but Bracks said he can see it becoming a permanent fixture on the Cessnock calendar.
“I reckon it’s here to stay,” he said.
