Four businesses have opened in the new complex this month – the Cessnock Central Newsagency and Go-Vita (which relocated from the plaza), Snap Fitness 24/7 gym and Yogurtland.
The site was home to the ambulance station for 50 years and has been extensively revamped to accommodate the retail commercial centre.
Cessnock Chamber of Commerce president Geoff Walker said it was refreshing to see new business in that part of the central business district.
“It has lit up the area completely, adding a bit of vitality to that end of town,” he said.
“It’s not just for about shopping for groceries any more.
“Once activity starts, people take notice.”
