Kurri Kurri resident Ray Martin has spent most of his retirement volunteering in the community.
A former chef and restaurant owner, Mr Martin volunteered for Coalfields Neighbour Care for eight years until he called it a day last Friday.
Mr Martin drove people to medical appointments, hairdressers and the supermarket, or did their shopping for them if they weren’t able to leave the house.
At 81, he decided it’s time to wind down.
He has trained up a new volunteer, and encourages anyone who can spare the time to think about volunteering.
“It’s a service to the community, there are people out there who are unfortunate,” he said.
