
Cessnock Rugby Union club is chasing recruits on the eve of the Newcastle and Hunter Rugby Union season after being hit by injuries and retirements.
Despite being short on numbers tuned up for next week’s opener with a 22-15 win against fellow First Division team Southern Lakes.
Retired players Dean Marshall and Lee Herring came into the team to boost numbers, but unfortunately one of the club’s new recruits Scott broke his leg in the first 10 minutes of his first game for the club.
Cessnock’s first game is away to East at Dangar Park, East Maitland, from 1.30pm.
Pokolbin opens its season against Musswellbrook at Hunter Valley Gardens, with kick off at 3pm.
