Cessnock’s Youth Week program has once again been named as one of the best in New South Wales.
Cessnock City Council has been shortlisted as a finalist in the 2016 Local Government Awards following another outstanding Youth Week in April.
The Cessnock Youth Week organising committee has been nominated for the best local Youth Week program, planning and delivering over 18 events and activities.
The committee has had previous recognition, winning most innovative Youth Week program at the 2014 Local Government Awards.
Youth participation in the event reached an all-time high in 2016, with 1800 young people engaged and entertained by the various activities, which marks a 10-year record.
Cessnock Mayor Bob Pynsent said this is a credit to the dedicated people at Council and in the community.
“The success of this event relies on the commitment and dedication of individuals in the community who want to see our young people flourish,” Cr Pynsent said.
“I congratulate everyone involved, you really do an outstanding job in working together to make this event such a success. This nomination is a reflection of your hard work.”
Youth Week was a collaborative effort between community organisations, local businesses, the Cessnock Youth Entertainment Committee and other local young people.
The Local Government Awards will be held at the Grace Hotel, Sydney on August 4.
