The 2016 Cessnock Relay For Life has raised an estimated $83,000 for the Cancer Council.
Hundreds of people gathered at Baddeley Park on Saturday to celebrate cancer survivors and carers, remember loved ones lost to the disease, and fight for a cure.
With a fundraising goal of $80,000, Cessnock was only the second relay in NSW this year to beat its target.
The event supports the Cancer Council’s research, education, advocacy and support services.
Funds from this year’s Cessnock Relay For Life have been used to buy a Toyota Camry that will be used to transport cancer patients from the Cessnock area to and from their treatment appointments in Newcastle.
The event included entertainment all day, kids’ activities, a candlelight ceremony of remembrance and fireworks.
