Author Denise Sweeney will visit Cessnock Library on November 17 to promote her book Steps to Survival.
In the book, Sweeney recounts her personal experience following being diagnosed with gynaecological cancer in 2008.
After having a complete hysterectomy she had a 95 percent chance of a complete cure, but within just four months the cancer reoccurred as a rare and aggressive clear-cell endometrial tumour.
During this difficult time, Sweeney drew on her psychology training, using various strategies to give herself the best chance of surviving.
She wrote ‘Steps to Survival’ to share her story of cancer and survival with other women affected by cancer. The book also aims to raise more awareness of gynaecological cancers and cancers of the female reproductive system.
The talk will start at 10am and will include morning tea. Entry is free but bookings are essential for catering purposes; call 4993 4399 to book your place.
