Award-winning Australian author, AB Patterson will give a talk at the library on Tuesday, February 14.
The author of Harry’s World will shed light on this outstanding mystery, which is based on an old-school detective in an unfriendly modern world.
While the characters are fictional, Patterson drew on his experience as a Detective Sergeant in the WA Police and later was a chief investigator with the NSW Independent Commission Against Corruption for inspiration.
Patterson said he had been a long-time fan of crime fiction and always wanted to write, and when it came down to it, he realised he had a lot of material to work with.
He described his writing as “confronting and gritty” with an element of catharsis.
Above all, he wanted to tell an entertaining story that people will enjoy reading.
Published in 2015, Harry’s World has won the outstanding mystery award in the 2016 Independent Author Network Book of the Year Awards, a bronze medal in the 2016 Independent Publisher Book Awards, and a bronze medal in the 2016 Global Ebook Awards.
It was also named a finalist in both the 2016 Beverly Hills International Book Awards and the 2016 National Indie Excellence Awards.
Patterson is currently about half-way through writing a sequel, Harry’s Quest, which he expects will be published mid-year.
His visit to Cessnock will coincide with Library Lovers Day, a celebration of everyone who loves libraries and reading.
Cessnock mayor Bob Pynsent said it is fantastic to welcome an author of this calibre to the library.
“This is one of many author visits planned for our libraries in 2017 as we continue to champion a love of reading in our community,” he said.
The talk will run from 11.30am to 12.30pm and entry is free, with light refreshments provided.
RSVP by phoning 4993 4399 or booking in person at the library.
