Cessnock City Seniors Festival committee member Phil Baird said interest in the new sport has gained momentum it has been decided to conduct a practice session for all those wishing to take part.
“The purpose of this session will be to familiarise potential players with the rules of the game as well as loosening up some of the body parts that may not have been in use for some time,” Mr Baird said.
“It will also allow some to form possible teams in preparation for the actual launch.”
This practice session will start at 9.30am on February 23.
The launch will be held at the stadium on Tuesday, March 7 at 10am.
Teams from Mount View High School will perform a demonstration before groups of seniors try their hand for the first time.
Cessnock’s senior citizen of the year, Ron Jackson, will be given the honour of the first bounce of the ball in walking basketball in the Hunter.
