The Hunter-Central Coast Regional Illegal Dumping (RID) Squad fined the 46-year-old and ordered him to pay clean-up costs in mid April, after the two large mounds of garbage were discovered dumped at the Hunter Economic Zone on February 21.
A RID Squad spokesperson told Fairfax Media on Monday that “further compliance action will be taken” if the man failed to comply with the clean-up notice.
“If all avenues have been exhausted for the offender to comply with the clean-up notice then an option is to issue an additional penalty infringement notice for failure to comply with the initial clean-up notice,” she said.
“As this incident occurred on private land, the landowner will be responsible for clean-up in the event the offender fails to do so.
“The landowner may then choose to pursue costs for the clean-up against the offender through independent legal action.”
In April, RID Squad coordinator Rob Robertson said the action against the Thornton man was “an example of a very positive outcome achieved through good communication by a number of involved agencies, both public and private, together with dedicated, highly experienced investigators who are targeted specifically on illegal dumping matters”.
The squad is a joint project between the region’s councils and the NSW Environment Protection Authority.
