There wouldn’t be many workers and regular visitors to the Cessnock, Kurri Kurri and Maitland CBDs who haven’t come across Jordyn ‘Jordy’ Threlfo’s smiling face.

His errand service, Jordy Can Do Errands For You, turned five in July.

Jordy’s mum Dee created the idea for her son in 2012 after he completed his schooling at Mount View High the year before.

Jordy's smile and amazing work ethic caught Cessnock’s attention, and his base soon grew to include Weston, Kurri Kurri and Maitland.

Jordy – who turned 24 in July – now work four days a week with clients that he includes among his friends.

His services include shredding, vacuuming, window cleaning, letterbox drops, cleaning golf carts, deliveries and pick ups – all things that can save businesses time on busy days.

“Jordy is blessed with so many beautiful customers, and appreciates it every day, talking about who we will see each work day,” his support worker Jen Quinn said.

“But the nicest part is, at the end of each day when asked 'what was the best part of today?"

“His answer is always someone, and never something.

“Working at Jordy Can Do gives Jordy a lot to be proud of.”

Jordy celebrated his fifth anniversary in business with some of his Cessnock clients with a cake in Sternbeck Park on July 26, and was joined by some of his Kurri and Maitland-area clients in Rotary Park on August 2.

“It’s a very proud achievement, and Jordy loves to share cake!” Jen said.

Jordy’s here to help local businesses

Sawyers Gully teen Jordyn “Jordy” Threlfo has started his own errand service to help Cessnock and Kurri businesses save time during their busy days.

Jordy, who has multiple disabilities, completed Life Skills (Year 12) at Mount View High School last year.

He turns 19 this month, attends Mai-Wel two days a week and has a support worker for other activities, including his errand service and voluntary work (including Pink Ladies, Men’s Shed and Meals on Wheels).

The inspiration to start his own business (named Jordy Can Do Errands For You) came from a story his mum Dee saw on 60 Minutes a couple of years ago, about a young man with autism and vision impairment who started a similar business.

Jordy offers a range of services within his ability, including placing and picking up lunch orders and dry cleaning; tidying staff rooms and waiting rooms, post office and newsagent runs and other time-saving tasks.
