The fact that we had an even stronger “yes” vote than the nation (65.5% compared to 61.6%) shows what a tolerant and loving community we live in.

RELIEF FOR BUSHFIRE VICTIMS
Good news came through last week that people affected by the September bushfires will be eligible for disaster relief funding.
Help is being provided through the jointly-funded Commonwealth-State Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA).
Individuals, small businesses, primary producers and councils are eligible to apply for assistance.
Although it won’t be able to recoup all of its $1.5 million losses, the Richmond Vale Railway Museum is working on applying for grants to restore its damaged tracks.
Further information is available at the websites disasterassist.gov.au and emergency.nsw.gov.au.
Regarding this month’s storms in Kurri Kurri, no announcement has been made regarding relief funding being available.
POST OFFICE UP AND RUNNING
By the time you read this, a temporary post office should be operating in Rotary Park, Kurri Kurri, while work continues on the building damaged by the storm.
I am pleased Australia Post has managed to get all of the mail out of the damaged building – including three passports – and was able to send extra staff to Weston Post Office to help with demand. Thank you also to the staff at Abermain for helping out.
By the time you read this, a brand new temporary Post Office should have been trucked from Sydney and be operating in Rotary Park.
Apparently, it’s the first time it has been used, and it doesn’t have a name. Postie McPostface, I wonder?
