Greta/Branxton fourth grade batsman James Thomson came in at the fall of the first wicket and blasted 23 boundaries on his way to 111 against Supporters Club at Miller 1.
On the family orientated front in the very same match, in what must be an association first - Supporters Club’s Minter sextet consisting of father Scott and five sons Jordan, Kobe, Lebron, Terrell and Isaac all took the field.
In first grade Mulbring kept their unbeaten run in check by defeating arch-rivals Bellbird by 65 runs at Carmichael Park.
Batting first the Marlins accumulated nicely, as has been the case all year, to finish with 6-184 from their 40 overs. Drew Olsen returned to form with 56 at the top of the order, with Mick Mascord (39), Nigel Callan (33no), skipper Cameron Ross (17) and Josh Lewis (14) all contributing.
Ben Troke was the best of the Bellbird attack with 2-28 off 10, with Matt Tomlinson (2-37 off 10) also bowling a tidy spell.
The home side were 1-42 after eight overs in reply, but crumbled to lose their next five wickets for just 23 runs, and mountain proved too steep to climb as they were eventually bowled out in the 34th over for 119.
Jason Orr wasted no time with his 34 opening up, with Ben Fairlie (33) and Matt Tomlinson (17no) the only other batsman to reach double figures.
Matt Zechel’s match winning performance with the new ball saw him rip through the Tiger top order to finish with 4-8 off 10 including a remarkable seven maidens. He received support from Ross (2-24 off 7) and Sam Apthorpe (2-13 off 3.4).
Supporters Club also remained undefeated at the equal top of the ladder after disposing of Greta/Branxton fairly convincingly by 85 runs at Baddeley Park.
Skipper Troy Culley won the toss and elected to bat, with the Goannas accumulating nicely to close their innings at 7-196. Culley led from the front at the top of the order with a hard hitting 65.
He received good support from Mick Gates who played a sensible 39, with Nathan Stapleford (29no), Pete Brennan (24) and Greg Brodie (18) all scoring freely.
Former Goanna Ryan Eagles was the pick of the Greta/Branxton attack with 3-18 off 4, with Martin Shearer (2-32 off 10) and skipper Brent Watson (2-49 off 10) picking up a brace of wickets each.
The Blues were out of sorts in reply and were never really in the hunt. They were all out in the 29th over for 111.
Eagles completed a good all-round game with his team’s top score of 33, while Nathan Holz (31) and Joey Butler (17) were the only other batsmen to reach double figures in an otherwise dismal looking card.
Andrew Nicolai bowled beautifully on the unpredictable deck to finish with 4-27 off 10, with left arm orthodox bowler Jordan Goldman supporting well with 2-39 off 6.
In the final game of the round Peden’s Hotel tasted its first victory of the season by blowing Wine Country off the park by nine wickets at East End.
Wine Country batted first and received the full compliment of overs, but could manage just 8-139 due to some very tidy bowling and fielding from the home side.
Brendan Briedenhann was the Wood Ducks’ best with 34, Stephen Hedger and Matt Lighfoot made 21-apiece, with Matt McCarthy making an unbeaten 16.
Dale Johnston (3-40 off 10) and skipper Matt Hopley (3-44 off 10) picked up a treble of wickets each for the Piranhas.
The home side reeled in the modest target in style in reply, reaching it in just the 15th over after losing just the one wicket.
Skipper Matt Hopley capped a fine all-round match winning performance with an unbeaten 85 off just 41 deliveries, including half a dozen maximums. Opening partner Mark Crowfoot made 25, with Johnston cutting the ribbon with 18no.
Dave Farrell (1-42 off 3) was the sole wicket taker for the Wood Ducks.
