Residents will receive free entry to Cessnock, Branxton and Kurri Kurri pools after 10am on Sundays, from December 17 through to February 25.
Cessnock mayor Bob Pynsent was excited that the free Sunday trial has arrived.
“It is an absolute pleasure to offer the community this opportunity to enjoy the warm weather and experience our wonderful facilities,” Cr Pynsent said.
“If you are using our outdoor facilities please make sure you are sun safe.”
The trial progressed after a notice of motion by councillor Di Fitzgibbon in September, requesting free entry to Cessnock and Branxton pools on Sundays during the summer holidays.
Council later resolved to include Kurri Kurri Aquatic Centre – which is operated by Belgravia Leisure – in the free trial.
Family-friendly activities are planned throughout the trial, including jumping castles and an inflatable fun park. Fees and charges will apply for these extra activities.
In extreme heat, the outdoor pools may be open for longer hours. When council officers determine extended hours are warranted, the community will be made aware via social media and other appropriate channels.
Cessnock is set for a scorcher this week, with maximum temperatures above 30 degrees until at least Sunday, including a top of 40 on Thursday.
