The chamber’s inaugural Light-Up Cessnock CBD shopping event will be held on Thursday night.
“Light-Up Cessnock CBD is a new initiative to bring the public together to support our local businesses in the lead up to Christmas,” chamber president Clint Ekert said.
“The night will begin at 5pm, with Santa wandering Vincent Street from 6.30pm handing out gifts for children.
“A family night out looking at the shops’ Christmas windows – just like old times!”
This night will be the last Thursday of the chamber’s Cessnock Buy Local campaign, which concludes Friday.
The Buy Local campaign gives shoppers the chance to win a share of $1500 ‘Cessnock Dollars’ – to be spent right here in Cessnock.
Just spend $20 or more in one transaction at a participating store by December 15 to go into the prize draw.
Mr Ekert said the campaign has been very popular with local shoppers who would like to win in the lead up to Christmas.
“Shoppers are very excited about the chance of winning a share in $1500, and retailers are too,” he said.
“It would certainly be a nice boost leading into Christmas, and what better way to support local than spend it right here in Cessnock.”
The campaign aims to increase economic growth in the Cessnock LGA by providing more reasons to keep people spending local where possible.
Local businesses are excited about the campaign, which gives them the opportunity to showcase their business to new customers.
“It's a great program to promote to people that Cessnock has some great little businesses who rely on the support of locals,” Sportspower Cessnock manager Tara Herring said.
“Not only does shopping local help businesses but it keeps local people employed – we have seven staff at Sportspower who are all local to Cessnock.”
Cessnock Buy Local entries close on Friday, December 15 and the winner will be drawn on Wednesday, December 20.
