Mount View Park (the Basin) has been earmarked as a location for the new skate park, which would cost an estimated $1.51 million to construct.
Cessnock City Council will seek grant funding opportunities for the project, and the concept design will support council’s applications, as it will be able to demonstrate links to an adopted strategy, extensive community engagement and design.
The draft design was produced via feedback from school students, industry professionals and other interested community members at community engagement workshops in 2017.
Cessnock mayor Bob Pynsent said it was great to get ideas from interested community members to help inform the design and now they have another chance to be involved in the project.
“The ideas and discussions during the workshops held last year were brilliant, in particular from those young people who use skatepark facilities frequently,” he said.
“It’s important council continue to plan for the future and ensure we invest in recreational facilities that meet the needs and desires of our residents.”
The design includes a large flow-style bowl, a street-style course, assorted seating ledges, a viewing deck and a barbecue area.
Council voted to retain the current skate park at East Cessnock as part of its Bridges Hill Park concept design, which was endorsed in December last year.
The draft Cessnock Skate Park concept design will be on exhibition from until Friday, April 13 and can be viewed at cessnock.nsw.gov.au/community/exhibition.
