A man has died following a single-vehicle crash at Congewai, near Cessnock, on Wednesday morning.
Just after 1am, emergency services were called to Congewai Road (about 20 kilometres south of Cessnock), following reports a car had crashed into a tree.
A male passenger, believed to be aged in his 20s, died at the scene. He has not been formally identified at this stage.
The driver, a 28-year-old woman, and a passenger, a 25-year-old woman, were taken to John Hunter Hospital in a stable condition.
Officers from Hunter Valley Police District and the Crash Investigation Unit established a crime scene and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
