The first child of Grace Watt and Nick Presland, Vincent was born at John Hunter Hospital on December 13 – almost four months before his due date – after Ms Watt experienced high blood pressure in the days leading up to his birth.
Vincent weighed just 575 grams – less than a tub of butter.
Almost 14 weeks later, he weighs in at 2.66 kilograms.
After spending every possible moment by Vincent’s side in the hospital, the new parents were allowed to bring their little boy home on March 9.
Vincent is on low-flow oxygen, and could be for three-to-12 months, but aside from that, all is going well.
“Apart from the oxygen he is a healthy boy,” Ms Watt said.
The couple thanked the local community for their support during Vincent’s time in hospital.
Friends rallied in support and set up a GoFundMe page, which has raised more than $1600, and McDonald’s Kurri Kurri donated $600 to the family from a fundraising night held on February 21.
The money allowed the family to buy equipment such as a camera to monitor Vincent’s heart rate, and other items they hadn’t had time to buy before their baby’s early arrival.
“Myself, Nick and Vincent cannot thank the community enough for all the support and donations, it has made life that little bit easier,” Ms Watt said.
