The 35-year-old rider sustained serious back injuries when he came off his bike in bushland.

He rode his bike back to the checkpoint at Millfield Public School, but after being assessed by medics, the Westpac Rescue Helicopter was called to the scene.

The helicopter landed near the school around 5pm and transported the man to Royal North Shore Hospital.
