The Cessnock Youth Week Organising Committee is proud to offer an inclusive program of events in 2018, with 26 out of 27 events being accessible to all.
While YouthFest at Cessnock Skate Park this Saturday is not 100 percent accessible, the committee has made every effort to ensure there are accessible toilets, parking and the Including You tent.
The Including You tent is a quiet, sensory space where people can take a break at a loud and busy community event. It offers a range of hearing and visual aids, noise-cancelling headphones, sensory tools and free wheelchair hire to support people with disabilities, their families, and carers.
Through collaboration with Ability Links, the Cessnock Youth Week Organising Committee has created a program that is inclusive of all young people in the community as well as one that embraces event accessibility.
“We are proud to work with a Committee that understands the importance of hosting accessible events for all in the community to attend,” Ability Links program manager Leonie Miller said.
Now in its fourteenth year, YouthFest is the signature event of Cessnock’s Youth Week program.
Organised by the Cessnock Youth Entertainment Committee, the free music festival and skate competition will be held at Cessnock Skate Park on Victoria Street from 10am to 3pm Saturday.
The lineup includes Split Feed, Interlude, Cameron Parker, Damsel In Dismay, Virescent and Get Unique.
Another exciting Youth Week event – an open mic night called Meraki – will follow on Saturday night at Cessnock Performing Arts Centre.

“I can't wait to do Cessnock Sings at CYCOS – the sound in that space is going to be just amazing and it will be great to do something with a family,” she said.
“Lyric sheets will be provided and the words will be projected onto a big screen – so you don't need to be able to read music and you don't need to have any singing experience at all.
“The idea is that we want to fill the space with so many voices we create one amazing big sound and no single voices are heard – sort of like a massive big group karaoke experience, but with harmonies and loads more fun.
“The night will also be filmed so you will be able to check yourself out on social media and marvel at how amazing we were!”
Cessnock Sings will run from 7pm to 8.30pm and entry is by donation.
