Brokenwood Wines’ assistant winemaker Kate Sturgess has been named in the top 50 Young Guns of Wine for the second time.

Ms Sturgess joined the Brokenwood team in 2015 and made the top 50 the following year.

She is the only Hunter Valley winemaker, and one of four from NSW, in this year’s top 50.

The Young Gun of Wine competition was founded in 2007 to find, celebrate and showcase Australia’s young and emerging winemakers.

“Year by year we get a gauge on trends and where wine is heading, and we can clearly see the creative rise and rise of the industry,” Young Gun of Wine founder Rory Kent said.

“Such this the depth of talent now, from last year, over 60 percent of winemakers are new to the Top 50 list, so that’s really exciting”.

This year’s Top 12 will be announced in Melbourne on May 12, and the winner will announced at Hobart’s Dark Mofo festival on June 18.
