Kurri Kurri High School’s Year 9 history classes have coordinated the collection, assembly and dispatch of care packages to be sent to Australia’s deployed troops this Anzac Day.

The classes have been studying a topic on Australians at War, and asked their families, fellow students and community members to donate items that meet Defence Force criteria to package up in boxes and send off to the troops.
They have included a personal touch in the care packages, writing letters of thanks to the servicemen and women.
Student Elianah Gilbert said her letter asks the receiver what it is like to serve our country.
“I don’t want them to feel that they’re out there alone, I want them to know that I care about them, and I hope they might write back,” she said.
Defence Force personnel joined the students at the school on Wednesday as they packed the care packages ready to send.
Sergeant Ronald Sims and Leading Seaman Toby Spence lent a hand to pack the boxes and spoke about where these packages will go and what it is like to be on the receiving end.
Students from the Kurri Kurri area will once again be involved in the town’s Anzac Day march on April 25.
The march will leave Mitre 10 at 9.45am and proceed to Rotary Park for the 10am service.
The Kurri Kurri service will this year include the Australian and New Zealand national anthems.
