It was a great display of our local providers showcasing wine, beer and food. It was also an opportunity to listen to live music and of course, to do some stomping. Once again a big congratulations to the organisers. We look forward to next year’s event.
MANY HIGHLIGHTS DURING SENIORS FESTIVAL
The Seniors Festival has wrapped up and it’s been great to attend some of the 40 events and activities in the program.
A highlight was a visit to the Community Women’s Shed Kurri Kurri. During the open day I met some really fantastic women who are working hard to finish crochet blankets which will be donated to the homeless. The Women’s Shed is a reminder of what the Seniors Festival is all about – connecting people with like-minded people and organisations. It is about spending meaningful time together and building a strong sense of community.
Another highlight was the Knowing your wine for beginners, which was held at the Cessnock Library. Great to see Kelman Vineyard getting involved. A huge thank you and congratulations to the Seniors Advisory Committee.
YOUTH WEEK IN FULL SWING
Youth Week is in full swing and over the weekend Youthfest drew large crowds at the East Cessnock Skate Park. The event now in its fourteenth year and is one of the highlights on the program.

COUNCIL ENDORSES PROJECTS FOR STRONGER COMMUNITIES FUND
Council is also preparing to submit six applications under round two of the NSW Government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund.
Council has endorsed the following projects:
- - Baddeley Park Regional Sporting Complex Floodlight Upgrade
- - Regional Playground at Bridges Hill Park
- - Sporting Amenities at Birralee Park to replace the 30-year-old junior facilities
- - A brand new Splashpad for Cessnock Pool including slides, fountains, shade and equipment
- - Branxton Town Centre Masterplan Public Domain Works
- - Community Halls Toilet Upgrade Program
As part of the State Government’s assessment process, members of our community will be chosen at random and asked about their preference for each proposed project.
Locals are being asked to think about the project so they are prepared if they receive a phone call.
PASSING OF ERROL JORDAN
It is with great sadness to hear of the passing of Errol Jordan, who was named Senior Citizen of the Year in 2015.
Errol moved to Branxton in 1955. He worked tirelessly for the Branxton community for over 50 years as a member of the Lions Club, a past president of the Golf Club and RSL sub-branch.
Errol and his wife Anne dedicated a lot of time delivering meals on wheels over many years. Our thoughts are with his friends and family.
