The Hunter River Division and Coastal Valleys Region Olaves are once again collecting bras for the Uplift Project.

A division of Girl Guides for women aged 18 to 30, the NSW and ACT Olave program collected 3246 bras and $577 for the Uplift Project, with the Hunter River and Coastal Valleys Olaves’ contributon of 1240 bras and $240 earning them the ‘Bra Cup’.

The project seeks new and second-hand bras of all shapes and sizes, including nursing bras, crop tops, mastectomy bras and prostheses, and swimwear, to be donated to women in disadvantaged countries where bras are seen as a luxury item – often unobtainable and unaffordable.

The Uplift Project has distributed more than one million bras to women in need since 2005.

Along with collecting bras this year, the Olaves urge the community to consider making a monetary donation to help with the distribution of bras overseas.

“The Uplift Project desperately needs money to be able to send bras overseas,” Hunter River Olaves unit leader Lauren Gray said.

“It costs approximately $10 to ship 100 bras – that’s 10 cents per bra!”

The campaign will run until June.
