The Public Library Infrastructure Grants Program supports projects that will assist NSW councils to improve public library infrastructure, including buildings and IT systems.
Cessnock City Council’s library services coordinator Rose-marie Walters said the upgrade will create a contemporary library environment where people and local groups will be able to visit and undertake a variety of activities.
The project will include a new customer service desk, new furniture including computer desks, fresh paint, new carpet, and the creation of a separate reading area, which will contribute to greater amenity inside the library, while the removal of a wall to create a streetscape will modernize the façade.
Parliamentary Secretary for the Hunter Scot MacDonald said the NSW Government was pleased to support the Kurri Kurri community.
“These upgrades will allow Kurri Kurri Library to greater serve the local residents, and be an educational resource,” Mr MacDonald said.
Cessnock mayor Bob Pynsent said the funding announcement was “absolutely wonderful news”.
“The Kurri Kurri Library is such an important community hub and the upgrade of this facility will benefit our entire community,” Cr Pynsent said.
“Congratulations to the council staff who applied for this grant. I know they are excited to get started on this project.”
