Weston overcame the loss of suspended coach Steve Piggott to beat the Newcastle Jets Youth 2-1 and move off the bottom of the Northern NSW NPL ladder on Wednesday night.

The Bears opened the scoring at Weston Park in the ninth minute when Cooper Buswell controlled a low cross before beating a defender and knocking home the chance.
The Jets levelled in the 39th minute when Kent Harrison scored with a close-range free header off Josh Cairelli’s cross.
Tega Adjeke put the Bears back in front in the 57th minute with a header from a corner kick.
The Jets threatened late but Weston, who were without experienced midfielder Josh Maguire, hung on to move to nine points and seventh spot.
The match was the first in Piggott’s three-game suspension for match official abuse. The penalty was handed down on Tuesday and relates to an incident in the 2-1 NPL loss to Adamstown on April 28.
The Bears are considering an appeal.
Injured marquee signing Kew Jaliens, a former technical director at the club, has stepped into the breach during Piggott’s suspension.
The match on Wednesday night was a round-10 game forward to accommodate the Jets Youth’s trip to the Hong Kong Sevens tournament.
Weston have the bye this weekend in round nine before taking on Hamilton on Wednesday night in the FFA Cup and Olympic again at home in the NPL the following Sunday.
The Jets (10 points) take on Broadmeadow this Sunday.
