Anytime Fitness Cessnock and Kurri Kurri are among hundreds of clubs that will be taking part in Tread Together, a 24-hour treadmill challenge that gets underway at 3pm Friday, May 25.
The event raises funds for Suicide Prevention Australia and the National Suicide Prevention Research Fund.
It is the second year Anytime Fitness has partnered with the event, with this year’s nationwide fundraising goal set at $500,000.
Participants can pre-register to run, walk or dance for as little as 15 minutes, or up to the whole 24 hours.
Anytime Fitness Cessnock staff are prepared to walk a stint for a donation.
The club recently moved to new, purpose-built premises on Darwin Street (near Big W) and owners Shelley and Scott Melville hope the community will come along and support a great cause.
With suicide the leading cause of death for Australians aged 15 to 44, they recognise it has a far-reaching impact on the community.
“Every person in this place would have been affected directly or indirectly,” Ms Melville said.
Anytime Fitness Kurri Kurri manager Amber Rolph said the club will have four treadmills running throughout the event, with local business people and emergency services personnel among those who have signed up for the challenge.
