Crews will wear orange high-vis shirts featuring the Black Dog Institute’s logo over the next few months. The Black Dog Institute is dedicated to preventing and treating mental health issues.
Cessnock Mayor Bob Pynsent applauded staff for starting an important mental health conversation.
“I’m very proud that Council staff are shining a spotlight on mental health by participating in the initiative,” he said. “We all understand just how prevalent mental health is in our community and that it’s something we can talk about openly.
“Research shows men in particular find it hard to ask for help if they are struggling so it is fantastic to see so many males in our organisation getting involved.”
Cessnock Council works and infrastructure director Justin Fitzpatrick-Barr said it was warming to see staff get involved in the campaign.
The initiative is part of an employee giving program where staff can make a donation to the Black Dog Institute.
