Testing will be available to residents of pre-1980 houses in the Cessnock, Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Maitland and Port Stephens local government area for 30 days.
Loose-fill asbestos, also known as Mr Fluffy in some cases, is raw crushed asbestos. During the 1960s and 1970s it was used as ceiling insulation in an unknown number of NSW homes, and over time can release hazardous airborne fibres into living spaces.
Information sessions will be held at Cessnock Council on July 9 from 11am to 5pm; Ritchie’s IGA Kurri Kurri on July 10 from 11am-5pm and Bunnings Cessnock on July 26 from 8.30am to 1pm.
Registrations close July 31 at fairtrading.nsw.gov.au.
