The Pickers, who trailed 12-10 at half-time, were right in the game until they ran out of subs due to injuries and Souths’ experience prevailed to run out 32-10 winners.
The Pickers have found real form over the past month, defeating Kurri Kurri and Cessnock to now sit fifth on the ladder.
The game was part of a triple header showcase of Ladies League Tag for the Newcastle Rugby League’s Women in League round and attracted a big crowd, despite freezing conditions.
Kurri Kurri defeated Cessnock 12-0, running in three tries in a highly entertaining game. The win completed a clean sweep of victories for Bulldogs sides over the weekend.
The Goannas have the youngest squad in the competition and like the other two Coalfields teams are bridging the gap on the more experienced Newcastle teams.
Western Suburbs defeated Lakes United 8-0..
