Sunday morning’s minimum temperature of -4.9 degrees, recorded around 5am, was 9.1 degrees below Cessnock’s average low for July, according to Cessnock Airport weather station records dating back to 1968.
It was just 1.8 degrees above Cessnock’s coldest night on record (-6.7 degrees, set on July 9, 1971 and equalled on August 26, 1994).
Sunday night wasn’t much warmer, with the mercury dipping to -4 around 1.50am Monday.
But after the chilly nights came warm, sunny days, with a top of 18 on Sunday and 17 on Monday.
The rest of the week is set to be balmy in comparison, with a range of 6-21 degrees predicted for Tuesday; 8-21 on Wednesday; 5-23 on Thursday and 9-19 on Friday.
Cooler conditions are expected to return on the weekend, with a range of 7-16 degrees forecast for Saturday and 5-18 on Sunday.
