The Maitland Pickers have bowed out of the Ladies League Tag finals race beaten 14-10 by Lakes United at the Maitland Sportsground on Saturday. Lakes led 6-0 at half-time courtesy with an against the play try from a Pickers error. The Seagulls scored first after the break but the Maitland girls refused to give in and scored next to trail 4-10. Lakes got the next try, but the Pickers returned fire with a brilliant converted try under the posts with four minutes left on the clock. A huge day of football at Maitland will be capped off with the much-anticipated elimination final between Coalfields rivals Maitland and Kurri Kurri. Kick off in the main game is at 3pm. Macquarie Scorpions defeate Central Newcastle 30-10 in the under-19 elimination final. Open grade is between Central and Macquarie is at 12.10 and reserves between Souths and Wests starts at 1.30pm. The Pickers under-19s and reserve teams and the Kurri Kurri opens side are in action in qualifying finals at St John Oval, Charlestown on Sunday.
