When it comes to almost inimitable personalities in the history of popular culture, there are few that would be as difficult as Michael Jackson.
However, the Texas raised William Hall doesn’t do a bad job by any stretch of the imagination.
William will be embodying the spirit of the late King of Pop when he brings his Michael Jackson – Legacy show to Cessnock Performing Arts Centre next week.
The performer, who bears an uncanny resemblance to the Thriller hitmaker, both in appearance and voice, said that the show would run the gamut of Michael’s formidable career.
“I really wanted put something in the show from all of Michael’s tours,” William said.
But, given the breadth of Michael’s catalogue, William added that creating such a show might not be as easy as one might think.
“It is really hard,” he mused. “The fans want to hear certain songs and it’s almost impossible to do them all, but we do try to keep everyone happy.”
While embodying the spirit of one of the most charismatic performers of our age might be a daunting prospect for most, William said that he is always excited at the prospect.
“That’s the best part for me – getting into character right before a show,” he said. “I don’t get nervous when it’s time to do Michael, it’s exciting. I feel like I’m in a Broadway play.
As testament to the quality of William’s tribute, he has had the privilege of working with some of Michael’s closest collaborators such as Tommy Organ who played guitar on Michael’s This Is It Tour and bass player and choreographer LaVelle Smith Jr who worked with the superstar on his iconic Bad and Dangerous tours.
William added that he continues to be fascinated by Michael’s creative ability, almost a decade after his death.
“He was too unique in ways I don’t think he even knew,” William said.
“He was a phenomenal artist and this show aims to pay tribute to the unbelievable talent that we’re never likely to see again.”
Michael Jackson – The Legacy Tour will be on at Cessnock Performing Arts Centre on Wednesday 12, September. Visit cpac.com.au for more information.
