Timo Tolvanen and Lauren Roby embody Taylor and King respectively, capturing the essence that saw both song-writers revered the world over.
They will be backed by a seven-piece band to re-create seamless renditions of such classic hits as Fire and Rain, How Sweet It Is, It’s Too Late, I Feel The Earth Move and You’ve Got a Friend.
Long-time collaborators, Carole King and James Taylor first worked together, almost 40 years ago at Hollywood’s legendary Troubadour nightclub.
Both Rock and Roll Hall of Famers, Carole and James are revered as two of the best-selling and best-loved songwriters of all time. James has sold 100 million albums worldwide while Carole was the first woman to win the Gershwin Prize for Popular Song by the US Library of Congress in 2013
Speaking to NPR on the 40th anniversary of that meeting James said it was also the first time he heard You’ve Got A Friend, which was to become a hit for both.
“I looked down at Carole playing her set on the stage below,” he said. “As soon as I heard the tune I just had to play it. I was desperate to get to my guitar and wander through those changes and sing that song,"
The band will also take you back to the lush sounds of the ‘70s with tracks from the likes of Jackson Browne, Crosby Stills and Nash and Neil Young.
The Songs of James Taylor and Carole King – A Celebration will be on at the Cessnock Performing Arts Centre on Saturday 29 September.
