Scalpers across the country are jacking up prices for tickets to the AFL preliminary finals by thousands of dollars leaving desperate fans in the lurch.

Two tickets to the West Coast Eagles and Melbourne Football Club blockbuster match on Saturday have been advertised online for $6500 with the seller in Western Australia.
Under Victorian laws, it is illegal to advertise tickets to a declared major event for more than 10 per cent above the face value but such legislation does not apply in WA.
Diehard fans keen to secure seats to the Collingwood and Richmond game at the MCG on Friday were bidding more than $23,000 for two tickets online, Nine News Melbourne said.

Almost 100 people are under investigation for scalping AFL finals tickets in Victoria.
"I want to remind fans that they should only ever buy tickets from official ticket websites and suppliers - tickets purchased from third party websites may not be genuine and there is no guarantee those tickets will get you into the game," a government spokesman said on Tuesday.
Victoria Police, who is supporting the economic development department to investigate ticket scalping, said it was unfortunate some people were trying to "cash in" on big games.
"Scalpers take advantage of footy fans who are desperate to see their team play by demanding huge sums of money for these tickets," a police spokesman said.There are hefty penalties associated with ticket scalping.
