In what is a coup for the region, this will be the first time that the conference has been held outside of North America.
General Manager of the Hunter Valley Wine and Tourism Association (HVWTA) Jo Thomas was overjoyed with the announcement.
“It really big coup for the Hunter Valley and it;s also fantastic to see that Crowne Plaza Hunter Valley have won the rights to host the conference,’ she said. “It is really going to open the region up internationally. Writers and media will be coming from across the world and we are expecting upwards of 300 delegates.”
Ms Thomas added, that as part of the bid process, the HVWTA also produced an itinerary of events to showcase the region’s other attractions.
“We went back to them with some suggestions for activities outside of the conference because, while it is a wine bloggers conference, there will be a lot of media from travel and other sectors,” Ms Thomas said. “This is a great opportunity for them to immerse themselves in our wine growing region while discovering what makes us so unique.”
Parliamentary Secretary for the Hunter Scot MacDonald said that securing the conference was a big win for the region.
“Securing this event means more heads on hotel beds, diners in restaurants and visitors to our tourist attractions, all fueling the Hunter economy, fantastic news for our local tourism and hospitality industry,’ he said.
“The conference will be attended by wine bloggers and media from the USA, Europe, China and New Zealand, who are expected to share their Hunter Valley experiences with a combined social media audience of more than 24 million.”
NSW Minister for Tourism and Major Events Adam Marshall added that the Hunter stood above other Australian centres vying to host the event.
“In a competitive bid process against other Australian capital cities, the Hunter Valley has shown it has what it takes to host an event with international appeal,” he said.
